Dental Hygiene and Prevention

At the Parodent dental clinic, we place great emphasis on dental prevention. We encourage patients to attend regular check-ups and educate them on proper oral hygiene. In addition, we perform professional hygiene procedures, including the removal of tartar, plaque, and discoloration from the surface of the teeth.

Dental hygiene – what does it involve?

Dental hygiene helps limit visits to the dental office to routine check-ups. We perform procedures aimed at thoroughly cleaning the teeth of deposits and tartar buildup.

The procedure is carried out by a qualified dental hygienist. It is completely painless and does not require anesthesia. It includes:

  • Ultrasonic scaling – a procedure that removes tartar covering the enamel and interdental spaces,

  • Air polishing – removal of deposits, dental plaque, and discoloration using a dental abrasive,

  • Tooth polishing – leaves the tooth surface smooth, making teeth shinier and brighter,

  • Fluoride treatment – application of fluoride varnish to strengthen the enamel.

When is dental hygiene treatment recommended?

We recommend dental hygiene treatment for patients who have developed tartar, plaque, or tooth discoloration. It is performed both as a preventive measure (to help prevent tooth decay) and prior to dental treatment. Professional dental hygiene is a mandatory step before orthodontic treatment, teeth whitening, implant placement, or endodontic procedures.

Dental tartar forms, among other reasons, due to inadequate tooth brushing, consumption of colored beverages, or smoking. It can cause inflammation and dental diseases and contributes to the development of periodontal disease. Persistent bad breath, swollen gums, or signs of tooth decay are clear indications for undergoing professional dental hygiene treatment.

How long does dental hygiene treatment take?

The duration of the procedure depends on the individual needs of the patient and usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.

The effects of hygiene treatment are visible immediately after the visit: the teeth are cleaner, whiter, and pleasantly smooth. The procedure improves the aesthetics of the smile, provides fresher breath, and reduces the risk of developing dental caries.

Preventive Care Plan at Parodent

Professional dental hygiene helps prevent excessive buildup of bacterial plaque, which is why we recommend undergoing it regularly—every 6 to 12 months. At our clinic, the preventive care plan is tailored individually, and the cost of dental hygiene procedures depends on the scope of services included. Patients interested in scheduling the treatment can choose a convenient appointment time.
